Rural Power Technology - Micro Hydro Power
With most of Papua New Guinea’s rural communities located far from the main power grid—and separated by rugged terrain—access to reliable electricity remains a major challenge. However, many of these remote areas are rich in natural water resources, including fast-flowing rivers and creeks that offer an ideal opportunity for small-scale hydro power. We have the capability to design and install micro to mini hydro power systems (5kW–1MW), providing clean, renewable energy to communities beyond the reach of the grid. Our team of skilled electrical and project engineers, electricians, and technical specialists manages every stage of the project—from feasibility studies and design to procurement, installation, and commissioning. Our hydro solutions empower rural communities with sustainable, off-grid electricity—improving livelihoods, supporting essential services, and driving local development.

Powering small villages and communities
1.4MW Hydro Power Feasibility Study
In 2023, our team conducted a comprehensive feasibility study for a hydro power project at Apere Village, located in Mumeng LLG, Bulolo District, Morobe Province. The site is powered by the Onz River, a fast-flowing water source with significant hydro potential. Our preliminary design estimated a generation capacity of approximately 1.4 megawatts (MW)—sufficient to power a small town. However, the site shows potential for even greater output with further development. The study confirmed that the project is technically and economically feasible, making it a strong candidate for future investment to bring reliable, renewable electricity to the region.
100kW Micro Hydro Power Feasibility Study
In 2025, at the request of Hon. Marsh Narewec, Member for Wau-Waria, and the District Development Authority (DDA), we conducted a feasibility study for a proposed 100kW micro hydro power system in Biaru, located in Wau-Rural LLG, Wau-Waria District, Morobe Province. The study focused on the Wisi Creek, a fast-flowing water source with strong hydro potential. Our design findings revealed that the site could generate up to 152kW of power—exceeding the original target and confirming that the project is feasible. The system, once implemented, would be capable of reliably powering the entire Biaru community, providing clean and sustainable energy to an area currently outside the main electricity grid. This project marks a promising step toward rural electrification and energy independence for Wau-Waria’s remote communities.
